Overview
The Egypt e-Visa is the Egyptian government's online travel authorisation for tourism, issued before you fly through the official electronic portal. It is open to nationals of more than seventy countries and lets you apply online and request entry for short visits without going to an embassy or queuing at a consulate. You choose one of two types: a single-entry e-Visa, valid for ninety days from issue and good for a stay of up to thirty days; or a multiple-entry e-Visa, valid for one hundred and eighty days and allowing several visits, each up to thirty days.
The authorisation covers tourism; it does not authorise paid work, study toward a qualification or long-term residence, which require the relevant visa category. Visa on arrival exists at major Egyptian airports for some nationalities, but availability varies and queues can be long, so securing the e-Visa before travel is the dependable route and is what airlines increasingly expect to see at check-in. The e-Visa is linked to the passport you apply with, so you must travel on that same document, and it is issued per traveller, including children.

How long does the Egyptian e-Visa take?

Can I get a visa on arrival in Egypt?
Visa on arrival is available at major Egyptian airports for some nationalities but the queues can be long and the system intermittent. The e-Visa secures your authorisation before travel and avoids the on-arrival queue.
What if I'm visiting only Sharm El-Sheikh?
South Sinai (including Sharm El-Sheikh, Dahab and Nuweiba) has a separate Sinai-only visa stamp issued on arrival for stays up to 14 days. Our specialists will flag this in the wizard if your itinerary is limited to that region.
Refund policy if denied?
If your Egyptian e-Visa is denied for reasons outside your control, our service fee is refunded. The government fee is paid directly to the Egyptian authority and is non-refundable. Denial Protection is available for eligible cases.
Do I need a printed e-Visa to board?
Yes. We recommend carrying both a printed copy and a digital version. Egyptian border officials commonly request the printed authorisation alongside your passport.
How long is the Egypt e-Visa valid?
Single-entry visas are valid for one visit up to 30 days; multiple-entry visas allow several visits within 180 days, each up to 30 days. Children need their own e-Visa.

You upload a scan of your passport biographical page and a recent passport-style photograph on a plain background, taken straight-on with no glasses or head covering except for religious reasons. Add your travel dates and Egyptian accommodation. We check the files are clear and correctly oriented before submission so the application is not held up.
Should I choose single-entry or multiple-entry?
A single-entry e-Visa suits one trip and is valid ninety days from issue, for a stay of up to thirty days. A multiple-entry e-Visa is valid one hundred and eighty days and lets you enter several times, each visit up to thirty days, which fits a regional itinerary that re-enters Egypt. Can I extend my stay or the e-Visa in Egypt?
A tourist stay can sometimes be extended at a passport office inside Egypt, but that is handled locally and paid to the Egyptian authority, separately from VisitPass. The e-Visa itself is not extended online; for a longer or different purpose you apply again or through an Egyptian consulate. We share the current procedure in your confirmation email.
What are the common reasons an Egypt e-Visa is refused, and how do you prevent them?
Most problems come from small data errors rather than eligibility: a mistyped passport number, a name that does not match the passport exactly, an inconsistent date, a passport with under six months validity, or an unclear photo or bio-page scan. Before submission we compare every field against your passport, confirm the dates are consistent and check the uploaded files are legible, so these avoidable issues are caught and corrected first.
What proof of funds or onward travel do I need for Egypt?
The e-Visa application itself does not require uploaded bank statements, but an immigration officer can ask about your trip on arrival, so it is wise to carry proof of accommodation, a return or onward ticket and access to sufficient funds for your stay. Can I transit through Egypt or use a Schengen visa to enter?
A short airport transit without leaving the controlled area may not need a visa, but if you clear immigration, see Cairo on a layover or take a connecting domestic flight you need a valid e-Visa. A Schengen visa does not grant entry to Egypt. If your plan involves a stopover or you are unsure, we confirm the right authorisation for your itinerary in the wizard before you pay.
When should I apply for the Egypt e-Visa?
The Egyptian Ministry of Interior decides in 1 to 7 business days, and the authority advises submitting at least a week before you travel. Apply once your trip is booked, ideally two to three weeks before departure so there is room for the decision and our review. Peak holiday periods and high tourist season can add a few days.
