Overview
The Türkiye e-Visa is the official online travel authorisation issued by the Republic of Türkiye for short visits. It replaces the old sticker visa and the visa-on-arrival counter: you apply digitally, with no embassy appointment, and the approval is linked to your passport electronically. Travellers from most of the markets we serve, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and many European Union nationals, genuinely need a Türkiye e-Visa before they board, even for a short holiday, so it is a normal part of planning a trip rather than an exception.
The e-Visa is valid for 180 days from issue, and within that window it permits a stay of either 30 or 90 days depending on your nationality. Entry is single or multiple, again depending on the passport you hold, so some travellers can come and go more than once while the authorisation lasts. It covers tourism and business visits such as meetings, conferences and short professional trips.
It does not authorise paid employment, enrolment in a long course of study, journalism for a Turkish outlet or permanent residence, all of which require a different permit obtained separately. The e-Visa links to one specific passport, so you must travel on the same document you applied with. Your Türkiye e-Visa is prepared in your own language and every entry is checked against the current rules before it is submitted to the Turkish authority.
Turkey e-Visa questions
How quickly is the Türkiye e-Visa issued?
The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs typically issues e-Visas within 24 hours of submission. Our Rush tier reviews your application within one business day and submits it without delay; Super Rush ships the same day with priority queue handling, so you are covered even when departure is close.
Do US citizens need a Türkiye e-Visa?
Yes. United States, United Kingdom, Canadian, Australian and most European Union travellers all need a Türkiye e-Visa before boarding, even for a short holiday. Our wizard confirms the exact rule for your nationality and we prepare the application for you so it is submitted correctly the first time.
What if my Türkiye e-Visa is rejected?
Most rejections stem from incorrect dates, mistyped passport numbers or an ineligible nationality. We catch these before submission. If your application is declined for reasons outside your control, our service fee is refunded; the government fee is paid to the Turkish authority and is non-refundable.
How much does the Türkiye e-Visa cost?
The Türkiye e-Visa carries a government fee that depends on your nationality, charged by the Turkish authority, plus our service fee for preparing and reviewing your application. You pay one all-inclusive price that includes both, with the government portion itemised on your receipt and nothing hidden, so you see exactly what each charge covers.
Is VisitPass official, and how does this work?
VisitPass is an independent service, not a government website. We complete and review your Türkiye e-Visa in your language so it is submitted correctly, and the government fee is passed straight to the Turkish authority. You receive your approved e-Visa by email once it is issued.
How long is the Türkiye e-Visa valid?
The e-Visa is valid for 180 days from issue. Within that window your permitted stay is either 30 or 90 days depending on your nationality. The validity period is not the length of stay: it is the window inside which your stay must fall. Children need their own e-Visa.
What documents do I need for the Türkiye e-Visa?
Usually a passport valid for at least six months beyond your travel dates, your travel dates and entry point, an email address and a payment method. There is no photo requirement. Some nationalities also need a supporting visa or residence permit, which we confirm against current rules before submission.
Is the Türkiye e-Visa single or multiple entry?
It depends on your nationality. Some passports receive a single-entry e-Visa, others a multiple-entry one that lets you come and go while the 180-day validity lasts. Our wizard confirms which one applies to you, so you know before you apply whether one trip or several are covered.
Do I need to print my Türkiye e-Visa before I travel?
The e-Visa is linked electronically to your passport, but we recommend carrying a printed copy or keeping it saved on your phone. Airline check-in staff and the border officer may ask to see it, and having it ready avoids any delay at the gate or on arrival.
Do I need supporting documents for the Türkiye e-Visa?
Many nationalities need only a qualifying passport. Others are eligible for the e-Visa only if they already hold a valid visa or residence permit from a country such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland or a Schengen state. We confirm which condition applies to your passport before submitting.
Can I extend my stay or work on a Türkiye e-Visa?
No. The e-Visa covers tourism and business visits for the 30 or 90 days your nationality is granted, and that period cannot be extended at the border. Paid work, study or a longer stay require a separate permit, which you arrange through a Turkish consulate before you travel.
Do I need a Türkiye e-Visa for a transit or connection?
If you only change planes and stay inside the international transit area of a Turkish airport, you generally do not need an e-Visa. If you pass through passport control, leave the airport or have a long layover you wish to use, you need a valid e-Visa, so apply before you travel if in doubt.
How can I avoid having my Türkiye e-Visa refused?
Most refusals trace back to small data errors: a name that does not match the passport exactly, a transposed passport number, a wrong expiry date, or applying on a nationality that is not eligible without a supporting document. We read every field against your passport and the current rules before submission, so these avoidable mistakes are corrected first and your application reaches the authority clean.
Do I need proof of funds or a return ticket for the Türkiye e-Visa?
The application itself does not ask you to upload bank statements or flight tickets. On arrival, however, a border officer may ask to see onward or return travel and proof of where you are staying. We recommend keeping a hotel booking and a return or onward ticket on your phone so any question at the border is answered quickly.
What supporting documents should I carry for my Türkiye e-Visa?
Carry the passport you applied with, a copy of your approved confirmation, and your accommodation and onward-travel details. Some nationalities are admitted only when they also hold a valid residence permit or visa from a country such as the United States, the United Kingdom or a Schengen state, and that document must be carried too. We confirm which condition applies to you before you apply.
Do I need to upload a photo for the Türkiye e-Visa?
No. Unlike a consular visa or some other authorisations, the Türkiye e-Visa does not require a digital photograph or biometrics at the application stage. You complete the form with your passport details and contact information only. This keeps the process light, and is one reason the authority can decide most complete, correct applications quickly.
When should I apply for the Türkiye e-Visa?
The Turkish government e-Visa portal decides in 1 to 24 hours. The e-Visa is valid for 180 days from the date it is issued, so there is no benefit to leaving it until the last moment. We suggest starting a few days before departure on the Standard tier, which leaves room for a minor correction, and choosing Rush or Super Rush when you are travelling within a day or two. Always apply on the passport you will actually carry.
